Noah Howard

Live at the Village Vanguard
Noah Howard (alto sax, tambourine, bells), Frank Lowe (tenor saxophone, bells), Earl Freeman (electric bass), Rashied Ali (drums), Robert Bruno (piano), Juma Sultan (congo drums, timbali)
This comes from a recent CD-R reissue with clean, solid sound but occasionally some odd mixing from the original tape. In any case, the Howard/Lowe axis totally slays on this document of 70s NY loft-jazz. Recorded live at the Village Vanguard, NYC, August 22, 1972.

Brotzmann, Bergman, and Braxton

Eight by Three
Peter Brotzmann, Borah Bergman, and Anthony Braxton
Rare meeting of these three improvisers. The recording quality is not fantastic. Sometimes it sounds as if they compensated for volume issues between the two reed players by having Brotzmann stand far away from the mic. "La Bas" is a sick track. Bergman insists on inserting the same melody into every fucking session he participates in.
